The match started with Malta taking an early lead in the 12th minute. Paul Mbong received a pass in the center of the pitch, evaded Matvienko, and scored a goal, putting Malta ahead 1-0.

Ukraine struggled to make an impact in the early minutes of the game but soon gained control. In the 38th minute, Kamendzuli scored an own goal while attempting to clear the ball in Malta’s penalty area, leveling the score at 1-1. Just five minutes later, a penalty was awarded to Malta after a foul on Mudryk, which Dovbik successfully converted, giving Malta a 2-1 lead.

Malta had a chance to go into halftime with an even score, but Guillaumier’s shot hit the crossbar of Ukraine’s goal.

The second half was evenly matched, with both teams failing to create clear goal-scoring opportunities. The goalkeepers handled the few shots that came their way with confidence.
