Manchester City picked up a fourth win!!

Watch the winning goal of City today!!

Manchester City picked up a fourth win in their last five matches to jump back to the top of the Premier League table with a gritty 1-0 victory away to Leicester City.

After a frustrating night in Dortmund in the Champions League during the week,

being held to a 0-0 draw inside of a fiery Signal Iduna Park,

the Premier League champions will have been keen on getting back to winning ways and continue their push towards a third consecutive league title.

With no Erling Haaland in the side due to injury,

Pep Guardiola’s side struggled to break down a resolute Leicester backline.

As a result, the first half was a frustrating one for the Blues,

as the chances came few and far between.

Luckily for the traveling Manchester City fans however,

Kevin De Bruyne provided a piece of immense quality to break the deadlock within five minutes into the second half.

His free-kick from 25 yards out smacked the inside of the post and beat Danny Ward to snatch a lead.

While most would have expected the early second half strike to force the Foxes out of their shells to reclaim parity,

the home side remained sheepish and allowed Manchester City to control the tempo as the clock ticked up towards 90.

While they did manage to create a flurry of half-chances in an effort to pull themselves level in the dying minutes,

Brendan Rodgers’ men were well marshalled by the City rearguard.

Most importantly,

Ederson was rarely troubled in the City goal.

Next up for the Blues is another date with Sevilla in the Champions League.

But having already cemented qualification from Group G,

City will likely have their sights set towards next weekend’s clash with Fulham in the Premier League.

While they will finish the day as league leaders,

second place Arsenal do have a game in hand on the Blues.

Mikel Arteta’s men could leapfrog them back into the driver’s seat by the end of the weekend.

Regardless,

Kevin De Bruyne fired Manchester City to the top

of the Premier League as the Belgian’s sublime free-kick sealed a 1-0 win against lowly Leicester on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side were without Erling Haaland

at the King Power Stadium after the Norwegian failed to recover from an ankle injury.

as he netted with a superb set-piece in the second half.

City’s first away win in their last four games moved them one point above second placed Arsenal,

who host Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Since their damaging loss at Liverpool,

City have recovered with successive league victories to underline their determination to win a fifth title in six years.

Leicester’s first defeat in four matches leaves them one place above the relegation zone.

Haaland had started all but one game this season after joining from Borussia Dortmund,

scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

Guardiola was reluctant to discuss Haaland’s absence but revealed his prolific star had “a bit of fever, tired,

and he has to recover (from the injury) as well”.

With Haaland sidelined,

Julian Alvarez came in for his second league start of the season and City seemed unfazed in a vibrant start.

Danny Ward had to save Ilkay Gundogan’s header before De Bruyne whipped a corner towards Rodri,

Bernardo Silva was next to test Ward from just inside the penalty area as the City barrage gathered pace

Camped in their own half for long periods, it took Leicester 25 minutes to muster a shot, with Harvey Barnes’ effort ending City keeper Ederson’s spell as a spectator.

De Bruyne’s long-range drive was too close to Ward, while Jack Grealish’s penalty appeal was rejected after he tumbled theatrically under a challenge from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

City kept up the pressure as Rodri blasted narrowly wide from distance early in the second half.

City had failed to score in their previous three away games,

but De Bruyne finally ended that drought in the 49th minute.

Taking aim from 25 yards,

the Belgian star unleashed a superb free-kick that curled around the Leicester wall as it flashed into the top corner via the post.

De Bruyne’s 60th Premier League goal moved the Belgium midfielder into joint fourth place alongside David Silva in City’s list of record scorers in the competition.

It was also City’s first goal direct from a free-kick in the Premier League since January 2021

Youri Tielemans was inches away from an immediate equaliser

Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench and twice went close

to a leveller with a snap-shot that whistled just wide and then a close-range effort straight at Ederson.

City almost contrived to gift Leicester a point in stoppage-time when John Stones’ header hit Ruben Dias and flew narrowly wide.
