Switzerland defeats Serbia in a crazy match and qualifies for the final 16

The Swiss national team snatched the second qualification card to the final price of Group G, by defeating the Serbian national team 3-2 on Friday evening at the “974” stadium, at the end of the first round of the World Cup (Qatar 2022).

Switzerland’s goals were scored by Xherdan Shaqiri (20), Brill Embolo (44), and Remo Frawler (48), while Aleksandar Mitrovic (26) and Dusan Vlahovic (35) scored Serbia’s goals.

Switzerland almost opened the scoring in the first minute, when Shaqiri followed a ball sent from the right wing before goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic shone in banishing the followers of Embolo and Xhaka.

Serbia responded in the fifth minute when midfielder Milinkovic Savic headed in a corner kick next to the goal.

Goalkeeper Milinkovic Savic caught an easy shot from Shakiri in the 22nd minute, before Serbia could equalize the score in the 26th minute when Tadic lifted a cross from the left, Mitrovic followed it up with a header towards the far post.

Shakiri hit a free kick from the right side of the penalty area, far from the goal in the 30th minute, then Serbia took the lead in the 35th minute when Tadic’s pass inside the penalty area reached Vlahovic, who crawled out of reach of goalkeeper Kopil.

But Switzerland refused to come out of the first half, lagging behind in the result, so it scored the equalizer in the 44th minute, when it reached Widmer’s cross, crawling towards Embolo, who followed it strong into the net.

The Serbs demanded a penalty kick in the 65th minute after Mitrović fell after a joint game with Char, but the referee ordered the continuation of play.

Mitrovic tried to shoot, but the Swiss defense closed the space in front of him in the 71st minute.

The rhythm calmed down a little before Akanji executed a Swiss free kick, which hit the side net from the outside in the 83rd minute, then the header of Serbian substitute Jovic passed over the goal in stoppage time.
