Borussia Monchengladbach continued its distinguished results against Bayern Munich by defeating it (3-2) at Borussia Park, today, Saturday, in the 21st round of the German League.
The Gladbach hat-trick came with the signing of Lars Steindl, Jonas Hoffmann, and Marcus Thuram in the 8th, 55th, and 84th minutes, while Choupo Moting and Mathis Thiel scored the goals of the guests (35th and 93rd).
The loss opened the door to Bayern losing the lead for Union Berlin if the latter beat Schalke 04 on Sunday.
Bayern Munich’s balance froze at 43 points in the lead, while Monchengladbach jumped to eighth place by reaching point 29.
The start of the match came on fire after Dayot Upamecano implicated his team by obstructing Hassan Blea as he launched the ball toward Jan Sumer’s goal, to receive a direct red card in the eighth minute.
The free kick was awarded as a result of the foul, Stindl executed it with a powerful shot, but Sumire was on the lookout for it and pushed it away with his fists from his goal.
And Stindl returned to surprise his former colleague with a creeping ground shot, which settled into the net, scoring the goal of advancing the home side, less than 5 minutes after Obamecano was sent off.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was forced to replace Thomas Müller after only a quarter of an hour, and push Joao Cancelo instead, with Benjamin Pavard shifting into the heart of the defense to fill Upamecano’s gap.
Steindl almost deepened the guests’ wounds with another goal from a similar shot, but his ball passed next to the post.
Davies launched the ball on the left side before sending a cross into the Gladbach penalty area, which Chubu Moting met with a direct shot into the net, equalizing the score for the Bavarian team.
Gladbach responded with a cross from a corner that reached the head of Rami Ben Sebaini, who met the ball with direct touch, but it hit the top of the net and passed outside.
Sumer stood in the way of a new attempt by the hosts by blocking a powerful shot from Kone, which bounced back in front of Chubu Moting, who nullified the danger of the attack by turning it into a corner, so the first half ended in a draw (1-1).
