Bayern Munich continued their series of negative results with a draw at home with Hoffenheim (1-1) in the 28th round of the German League. Despite the result, Bayern Munich remains at the top of the standings with 59 points, tied with rivals Borussia Dortmund, on goal difference only. Hoffenheim reached 29 points and is currently in 13th place.
First Half: Pavard Scores First Goal
The game began with the hosts’ first attempt through a long-range shot by Benjamin Pavard, which went over the crossbar. Bayern appeared more eager to score, and they succeeded after about 15 minutes when Pavard found the ball in front of him inside the penalty area and directed it into the net. Thomas Müller tried to catch a cross from a corner with a header toward Hoffenheim’s goal, but his attempt failed as the ball went over the crossbar. Hoffenheim struggled to take possession of the ball or launch any threatening attacks, while Bayern imposed complete control over the course of the game. Serge Gnabry almost scored a second goal with a powerful left shot outside the penalty area, but the ball passed by the post.
Second Half: Kramaric Scores Equalizer
The second half began with a clash between Jan Sumer, the Bavarian goalkeeper, and one of the Hoffenheim players. Sumer fell to the ground in pain from a back injury, but he got up quickly after receiving treatment. Sumer then removed a cross with his fists, but it reached Christoph Baumgartner, who met it with a direct header, almost turning into a goal, but it passed far from the goal. Müller sent a silk pass to Gnabry inside the penalty area, to be met by the latter with a powerful shot before a Hoffenheim defender intervened, preventing the ball from entering the net. The referee ruled a foul against Müller in favor of Hoffenheim on the borders of the landlords’ penalty area, and Andrej Kramaric executed the free kick with a perfect shot, which Sumer was unable to tackle, equalizing the score for the guests.
Failed Attempts to Score a Second Goal
Pavard scored a goal after a header from De Ligt, but it was disallowed due to offside after a video technology review. Baumann saved ground shots from Gnabry and De Ligt. Gnabry and De Ligt missed chances to score again. Gnabry had two opportunities to score, but he missed both times. Bayern failed to score the rescue goal.
