Cadiz away from home after impressive victory of Barca
Barcelona played the league’s bottom-placed team, Cadiz, in their fifth La Liga match of the year. On the night, the Catalans were by much the favourites, but the result of the game proved otherwise.
Given the matchup against Bayern Munich later that evening,
Xavi decided to make significant alterations to his starting lineup. The defensive adjustments got underway with Ronald Araujo and Gerard Pique making their season debuts. Balde played left-back while Hector Bellerin started at right-back.

Pedri was benched in favour of Frenkie de Jong in midfield,
and Gavi and Busquets completed the position. Raphinha and Ferran Torres flanked Memphis Depay,
who started as the centre forward, to his right and left,
respectively.
The hosts got the game going quickly and well with a heavy press and fast exchanges. When Sobrino’s shot was stopped by Araujo in the second minute,
they had a chance.
By the seventh minute,
Barcelona had reclaimed control of the match and had started to generate their own opportunities. Gavi did well to locate Raphinha in space in the 10th minute,
creating the biggest opportunity of the first half. After the Brazilian’s attempt at the near post hit the woodwork,
Ferran’s attempt at the rebound missed the target.
Both teams fought for possession of the ball for the ensuing 30 minutes and generated little chances. Xavi’s team had the majority of possession,
but there was little to show for it.
Barcelona had a flurry of opportunities in the last seconds of the half.
Ledesma made a strong save on Depay’s cross in the 46th minute,
and just one minute later,
Torres’ shot just cleared the crossbar.
Both sides had not scored by the time the first half ended. But of the two managers,
Xavi was obviously the one who was more dissatisfied.
In the end,
Barcelona scored in the 54th minute. Gavi was given space in the Cadiz box by Raphinha’s ball to the youthful midfielder. With a cut-back,
the teenager found Frenkie de Jong, who promptly buried the opportunity.
Dembele, Lewandowski,
and Pedri were added by Xavi for the final 30 minutes. The intensity of the Blaugrana play significantly increased almost immediately.
Lewandowski extended Barcelona’s lead just seven minutes after entering the game.
Ledesma mishandled Raphinha’s initial shot,
giving the Pole just enough time to dive goalward and scramble the ball over the line.
Lewandowski was left free into space by Ousmane Dembele with an exquisite pass to start the move.
The Pole ran into the Cadiz area and sent the ball across the face of the net for Ansu Fati to finish with a straightforward tap-in.
The goal by Ousmane Dembele in the dying seconds increased the margin to four.
The Frenchman made a flawless single move,
then performed a quick cut at the edge of the box to evade opponents before smashing the ball beyond Ledesma.
