Casemiro upset Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by tying the score in stoppage time to give

Manchester United a draw.

Even though United had the better of the first half because Marcus Rashford and Antony

didn’t take advantage of significant opportunities, the game in west London was far from

exciting.

After a closely contested second half, it appeared that the game would end scoreless until

Armando Broja was brought down from a corner with five minutes left. The referee signaled

to the spot, and Jorginho calmly sent David de Gea the wrong way.

However, Casemiro’s header in the fourth minute of stoppage time beat Kepa and almost

went over the line, resulting in a scoreless draw at Stamford Bridge.

United made a solid start at Stamford Bridge and put Chelsea under serious pressure after

their midweek victory over Tottenham. As the Blues battled to exert any type of authority,

Kepa Arrizabalaga turned back an attempt from Antony before sprinting off his line to

thwart Rashford.

United were so dominant that Graham Potter moved to his bench after just 36 minutes to

make a tactical adjustment, taking Marc Cucurella off and replacing him with Mateo Kovacic

to strengthen the midfield.

From that point on, Chelsea undoubtedly got better, but just before halftime, Bruno

Fernandes should have given United the lead after putting Antony clear through.

However, the Brazilian’s effort missed the target with his weak right foot.

Half Time: Casemiro scores a late header

The second half was more cageier since Fred had been added to the lineup to further swarm the midfield. Raphael Varane‘s limping off, in tears, with his thoughts undoubtedly on the World Cup coming up next month, dealt a worrying blow to United.
Trevoh Chalobah nearly broke the score from a set piece as his header bounced off the top of the bar after beating Fred in the air at the back post. The only offensive contribution from United was Fernandes’ distant shot attempts.

A few minutes after coming in, Scott McTominay brought Broja down in the box, and Jorginho appeared to have won it for the Blues. The Italian was flawless right there.
However, Casemiro came through in front of the opposing goal, with a magnificent header that barely over the goal line after deflecting off the inside of the post.
