The European Football Association revealed on Thursday that Belarusian national teams and clubs will play their matches on neutral ground.

UEFA explained that the matches will be held without a public presence.

This comes in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in recent days.

UEFA’s move comes to further stifle Russia, which is facing huge rejection from the sporting community.

The International Football Association (FIFA) announced its measures against Russia against the background of its invasion of Ukraine, waving the paper for exclusion from the competitions, but it has not yet taken it as an official decision.

The football governing body announced that the Russian national team will not play on its soil, will not play in the name of its country, and no international competitions will be held on its soil.

The situation continues to escalate, as the Polish national team refused to face Russia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, and Sweden rejected the possible confrontation with the same party, and now the French Football Association is demanding that the Russians be denied participation in the World Cup, while England announced that it will not play against Russia in near future.

The text of the statement of the International Federation is as follows:

First, FIFA condemns Russia’s use of force in the invasion of Ukraine. Violence is never a solution and FIFA expresses its deep solidarity with all those affected by what is happening in Ukraine.

FIFA again urgently calls for the restoration of peace and for the immediate start of constructive dialogue. FIFA remains in close contact with the Ukrainian Football Federation and members of Ukrainian football who have requested support to leave the country as long as the conflict continues.

Speaking on matters relating to football, and in coordination with the European Union (UEFA), the Bureau of the FIFA Council, which includes the FIFA President and the presidents of the six confederations, unanimously decided to take the first measures in light of the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, which will become effective until further notice:

No international competitions will be played on the territory of Russia, and its “at home” matches will be played on neutral ground and without spectators.

Any representative of Russia will participate in any competition under the name “Russian Football Federation” and not “Russia”.

The flag of Russia or the playing of its national anthem will not be used in matches involving a team of the Russian Football Federation.

FIFA will continue its ongoing discussions with the International Olympic Committee, the European Union and other sports institutions to determine any additional measures or sanctions that should be applied in the near future if the situation does not improve quickly, including the possibility of exclusion from competitions.

The FIFA Council remains ready to take any of these decisions, and FIFA believes that the sports movement must be united in its decisions in this regard, and that sport must remain a guiding force for peace and hope.

As for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers, FIFA took its notes from the positions that were expressed through social media by the Polish, Czech and Swedish federations, and indeed a dialogue with these federations has begun. FIFA will keep in close contact with everyone to find appropriate and acceptable solutions together.
