
Liverpool continued their pursuit of leaders Manchester City, by defeating its host Burnley 1-0 on Sunday evening, in the twenty-fifth round of the English Premier League.
Fabinho scored the only goal of the match in the 40th minute.
Liverpool’s balance rose to 54 points in second place, 9 points behind Manchester City, who played one game more, while Burnley’s balance froze at 14 points in the last place.

Senegalese star Sadio Mane returned to the Liverpool squad after a long absence due to his participation in the Nations Cup finals, and played in the front line alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, in exchange for the Portuguese Diego Jota on the bench.

The first quarter of an hour passed slowly, without a real threat to the two goals, until the 15th minute, when Burnley player Josh Brownhill fired a sudden shot that surprised Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Becker and sent it away to a corner.
Burnley threatened his guest’s goal in the 17th minute when Maxwell Cornett hit a ball that was saved by Alisson, before Liverpool responded in the 21st minute, through Keita, who missed a dangerous opportunity, while Salah demanded a penalty without listening.

An attempt was made by the new Burnley striker, Wout Wijorst, a derbka against Liverpool before the defense removed the ball in the 22nd minute, and then the same player returned to hit the side of the Liverpool goal in the 31st minute.
Although Burnley was the better party, Liverpool managed to open the scoring in the 40th minute, when a corner kick created a darbka in front of the Burnley goal, and Fabinho followed the ball into the goal.

Liverpool escaped from the header of Burnley defender Ben Mei 6 minutes after the passage of the second half, and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson left the field, to be replaced by the Spaniard Thiago Alcantara in the 59th minute.
And Liverpool seemed unable to form a plot from the counter-attack, prompting German coach Jurgen Klopp, to replace Mane with Jota in the 67th minute.

Liverpool woke up in the 69th minute when Andy Robertson raised a cross from the left, Firmino rose to it and headed it over Burnley’s goal, and Burnley revived its attacks by involving Ashley Barnes in the place of Wijourst.
Liverpool missed a dangerous opportunity in the 86th minute when Salah launched a counterattack from the right survivor and got rid of his sergeant, before passing the ball to the uncensored Jota, who fired with harassment from the defense to go his attempt by the goal.
