Both teams secured qualification in the same current order to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Strong start

The first dangerous chances of the encounter came in the sixth minute when City midfielder Rodri rose to a free-kick. As he headed the ball before defender Presnel Kimpembe took it away from the goal line.

The referee’s banner rose in the face of a shot from Neymar, who received a pass from Nunn Mendez in the 17th minute. And a minute later City responded via a tight shot from Mahrez. Which bounced off St Germain full-back Ashraf Hakimi to top the goal.

City defender Robin Diaz rose to a corner. But his header attempt went goalside after bouncing off Kimpembe in the 19th minute.

Sterling led with the ball from the left-wing, before passing a through ball to fellow Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko, who fired in an elaborate shot that Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas shone away in the 22nd minute.

M anchester City goalkeeper Ederson slammed home Mendez’s shot in the 27th minute. And one minute later Silva sent a ball in front of St Germain’s goal, reaching Sterling which brought him back to Zinchenko. The latter’s shot bouncing off St Germain captain Marquinhos.

City missed a chance to score in the 33rd minute, when Germany’s Elkai Gundogan got a pass from Silva, hitting the post, and moments later, Navas scrambled to save a shot from Silva.

One minute before half-time, Messi, after a fruitful collaboration with Idrissa Gaya, passed the ball to Mbappe, who fired from a comfortable position over the goal.

Goal run

The excitement continued in the second half, Rudy passing a through ball to Gundogan who faced the keeper. But defender Kimpembe cleared his last-minute shot with the 47th minute.

Saint-Germain was able to open the scoring in the 50th minute, after a team game involving Messi, Neymar, and Ander Herrera, before the former sent a ball in front of goal, reaching Mbappe, who shot it from the feet of goalkeeper Ederson.

The tempo calmed down a bit despite Gabriel Jesus coming into City’s squad. And Ander Herrera picked up the injury to get in his place, Danilo Pereira.

city got their goal when they scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute, with Rodri passing the ball into the box, passing in front of everyone to reach Sterling who completed it from close range into the net after a lightning touch from Jesus.

Saint-Germain felt the embarrassment of the situation, engaging Di Maria instead of Jaya, and Jesus’ cross bounced back from 3 defenders, before being picked up by goalkeeper Navas in the 75th minute, before which Neymar got rid of those around him, before facing the keeper and shooting next to the near post.

Manchester City took the lead in 76 minutes when Mahrez lifted a clever cross. Which Silva subtly returned to Jesus, who put it from one touch into the net before the tempo settled again in the final 10 minutes.
