Manchester City with a new victory!!
Manchester City earned a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
In a painful evening at the Etihad, Manchester City overcame Sporting in the final round to set up a meeting with Atletico Madrid, who knocked out Manchester United.
The Spanish champions were resolute in their defence throughout.
In place of Ilkay Gundogan, Pep Guardiola reinstated John Stones in a back four that included Nathan Ake at left back and Phil Foden on the bench.
Much of the build-up has focused on Guardiola’s and Diego Simeone’s opposing coaching methods, but the City manager insists that this match is about the players.
Atletico were tenacious from the outset,
limiting City to few opportunities and frustrating the Blues, who dominated but never had a clear shot on target.
That was until the arrival of Phil Foden on 70 minutes,
when his first touch set Kevin De Bruyne free to finish past Jan Oblak.
