FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Memphis Depay ensured an important victory

Memphis Depay scored two goals for the Netherlands to ensure an important victory over Montenegro 4-0 in the World Cup qualifiers.

Barcelona striker was pushed into the penalty area by Dusan Lagato and scored a penalty kick.

He hit the second after the intermission and attacked from an angle before Giorginio Wijnaldum hit the third.

Cody Gakpo scored the best goal of the night. The Dutch team ranked second in Group G, one point behind Turkey, and they played at home on Tuesday.

Gakpo’s goal was his country’s first goal. He scored on the field where he played club football against PSV Eindhoven.

Depay has now contributed 30 points for his national team, scoring 9 points in his past nine games.

With the efforts of Wijnaldum, they won a well-deserved victory in the third term of the country chief, Louis Van Gaal.

Montenegro had a chance, mainly due to the sloppy defense of the home team, but Stefan Mugosa was particularly wasteful, especially after the Dutch rookie Tyrrell Maracia sloppy passed the ball and shot wide.

They are now fourth in the group with 7 points and are the only automatic point. The game in Amsterdam on Tuesday may determine who gets this point.
