Nottingham Forest pulled a shock to Liverpool
Nottingham Forest pulled off a huge shock to beat Liverpool at the City Ground on Saturday.
The Tricky Trees felled a Premier League Redwood for a first win in 10 games and just their second of the season.
Taiwo Awoniyi,
a Liverpool academy product,
was the hero for Forest as his second half strike sealed the 1-0 win for Steve Cooper’s side as the home fans went bonkers throughout.
Watch the shocking goal of Nottingham against Liverpool!
Though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool continue to struggle at the start of the season
as they suffered this shock defeat after pulling off successive 1-0 home wins against Manchester City and West Ham at Anfield.
With the victory Forest move on to nine points for the season. Liverpool remain on 16 as they’ve now lost four of their opening 11 games.
Salah struggling in central role: The Egyptian King is missing the right
wing as Salah started up top again in Liverpool’s 4-4-2 and it just isn’t working.
He isn’t able to find pockets of space like he does when he cuts in off the right
and Forest’s center backs marked him pretty easily throughout. He snatched at chances and just looked off it,
as he has done in recent weeks.
The day began at 05:15 for Jurgen Klopp,
with Thiago Alcantara reporting an ear infection which caused him to sit this one out,
while Darwin Nunez failed a late fitness test. The huge injury list combined with a spot of rotation meant Liverpool were missing three of their four best attackers,
the same figure in midfield, and three of their five strongest defenders.
Though Nottingham Forest 1 Liverpool 0
Nottingham Forest ended their 10-game winless streak in style as Taiwo Awoniyi
returned to haunt former club Liverpool and stop their Premier League revival.
Awoniyi was on the books at Anfield for six years without ever playing for them,
but showed Jürgen Klopp what he was all about,
so securing a famous 1-0 win that lifts Forest off the bottom of the table after his second-half goal.
Forest beat Liverpool at the City Ground in their first ever Premier League
match 30 years ago and this victory will be just as memorable as it is their first three points since August and will provide hope
that they can make a fist of their return to the big time after picking up just three points from their last 27 available.
Liverpool looked to have turned a corner after wins over Manchester City and West Ham in the past week,
but after a Wednesday night to Saturday lunchtime turnaround that Klopp hates so much,
this was a setback in their attempts to claw themselves back up the table
Liverpool’s mini-revival came to a crashing halt with a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest,
Basically who secured just their second Premier League win for 23 years thanks to Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal.
Awoniyi spent six years as a Liverpool player without ever making an appearance as he was farmed out on a series of loan spells,
but came back to haunt his former club and move his current employers off the bottom of the table.
Liverpool were without the firepower of the injured Darwin Nunez,
Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz and it showed as they lacked the spark needed to unlock a deep-lying Forest defence.
The Reds have now already lost more league games in the first 11 matches
than in the whole of last season when they lost out on the title to Manchester City by just a point.
Though Victory over City last weekend,
followed by another 1-0 win against West Ham in midweek had seemingly given Jurgen Klopp’s men lift-off after a slow start to the campaign.
