Sevilla beat Espanyol on penalties after effort!

This weekend sees the continuation of La Liga as Sevilla travel to Cornellà-El Prat to play Espanyol. Both teams have had a miserable start to the new season,

but given the visitors’ superior talent, it has been far worse for them.

After kicking off their Champions League campaign in midweek,

they are now determined to win at home. However,

their opponents will be just as eager to pick up three points in order to give themselves a boost.

A first win of the season last time out has got Espanyol out of the doldrums – and above their visitors today,

no less – but the job is far from complete as they look to ensure they will be nowhere near a relegation battle.

They are now focused on winning at home after beginning their Champions League campaign in the middle of the week. Their rivals,

on the other hand,

will be just as keen to score three points in order to enhance their own confidence.

The match witnessed the participation of Yassin Bono,

along with his compatriot Youssef Al-Nusairi,

and both of them played the full minutes of the confrontation.

And the Andalusian team opened the goal share early, specifically in the second 40′,

through Argentine Eric Lamela,

then his colleague Jose Angel Carmona Navarro added the second goal in the 26th minute,

and the same player returned and added the third goal 45′.

The hosts were able to reduce the difference,

in the extra time of the first half,

with the goal of carrying the signature of Khosilo (45+1′) from a penalty kick,

so that the first half of the match ended with the progress of Bono’s companions (1-3). During the second half,

Martin Braywith managed to add the second goal 62′,

but his companions did not succeed in the remaining minutes,

to score the equalizer,

to end the match with a victory for Seville and achieving the first victory of the season.

Seville increased their score to 4 points,

taking over 16th position with the same amount of points as Espanyol, which is in 15th place. This is the first victory for Seville after one draw and three losses.

Today, Saturday,

in the fifth round of the competition,

Seville defeated its host Espanyol 3/2 to earn its first victory in the Spanish Football League this year.


After earning just one point from four games,

Seville improved to four points to go up to seventeenth position,

one goal behind Espanyol, which held the same balance and was ranked fifteenth.

Eric Lamela gave Sevilla the lead in the opening minute,

and Jose Carmona,

a teammate, added a second goal in the 26th.

Carmona scored his second and third goals for Seville in the first minute of stoppage time for the first half,

while Joselo scored Espanyol’s first goal from a penalty kick three minutes later.

Martin Braithwaite scored Espanyol’s second goal in the 62nd minute.

Lamela was dismissed in the 85th minute after earning a second caution,

leaving Seville to finish the game with 10 men.
