Spain Court Dismisses Fresh Fraud Case Against Lionel Messi of Barcelona

A Spanish court on Friday dismissed a new lawsuit filed by a man against Lionel Messi of Barcelona in 2020. Accusing Argentine football players of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

Federico Rettori, an Argentine citizen living in Spain, claimed to have previously worked for Messi’s charity.

He filed a similar complaint in 2019 but was also rejected.

In it, he pointed out that the funds the foundation received “used for social undertakings” were “used for various private activities or bank accounts other than the foundation’s statement.”

In the complaint filed by Retori in 2020. He reappointed the Barcelona striker, the charity, his father Jorge and his brother Rodrigo, and added more documents to try to support his claims.

However, the Spanish National Court stated in its ruling that after two years of investigation, “the person who is the subject of the complaint cannot prove any criminal acts.

The court also stated that Messi’s foundation never employed Retori.

Instead, he ran an association called “El Buen Camino” or “The Right Path,” which received 150,000 euros ($ 177,000) in 2014 and 2015 to tackle Sierra Leone’s infant mortality rate, the court weighed.
