World Cup qualifying: Sweden vs Spain
Sweden vs Spain : Since the Swedish team ended La Roja’s 66 consecutive victories in 1993, the Spanish team lost for the first time in the World Cup qualifiers.
Carlos Soler gave Luis Enrique‘s Spanish team an early lead in Stockholm’s international debut.
But only 12 seconds after the game resumed, Alexander Isaac used a defensive error to score a goal.
Viktor Claesson controlled Dejan Kulusevski’s pass and then shot a famous winning ball from 12 yards.
The last time the team defeated Spain in a World Cup qualifier was Sweden’s neighboring Denmark in Copenhagen in March 1993.
Since then, Spain has won 52 world qualifiers and won the other 14 matches. The victory placed Sweden at the top of Group B with 9 points from three games.
Spain accumulates 7 points in four games and can face a play-off position in the 2022 World Cup. Only the group winner qualifies automatically.
