The Czech Republic defeats Switzerland

On Thursday evening, the Czech Republic national team defeated Switzerland 2-1 in the first round of the European Nations League group stage matches in the second group of the first division.

After today’s 1-1 tie, the Czech squad topped the group standings after winning the first

three points of its tournament career, putting them two points ahead of their closest

competitors, Spain and Portugal.

Without a point, Switzerland is at the bottom of the standings.

Jan Kochta gave the Czech Republic team the lead in the 11th minute, but Noa Okafor

equalized for the Swiss team in the 44th minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw in the first half.


The action continued in the second half, with the Czech team getting their second goal

through friendly fire in the 58th minute, as Gabriel Sow, a member of the Swiss national

team, scored an own goal for his own team, giving the hosts the three points.

This was the Czech team’s second win over its Swiss counterpart in official matches,

following a 1-0 triumph in the European Nations Cup group stage (Euro 2008).
