Argentina vs Peru match report: Peru missed a second-half penalty in its 1-0 loss to Argentina in Buenos Aires on Thursday.

A goal by Lautaro Martínez in the first half gave Peru a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to equalize when substitute Jefferson Farfán was brought down in the area 19 minutes into the second half trying to surround goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

Yoshimar Yotun’s penalty kicked the crossbar as the visitors recorded a seventh loss in 12 qualifying matches.

“Those who score penalties are the great ones and the rest is luck,” said Argentine goalkeeper Martínez.

The victory brought Lionel Scaloni’s team to 25 points, three behind leaders Brazil, who face Uruguay on Thursday.

The top four will automatically qualify for Qatar 2022 and the fifth placed will go to an interregional playoff.

Argentine Christian Romero headed offside in the 10th minute.

Ángel Di María missed two good chances. hile Peruvian Gianluca Lapadula missed an excellent opportunity after skillfully cutting a cross a few meters from goal.

Argentina took a well-deserved lead three minutes before the break when Martinez headed into the net.

Peru fought bravely in the second half. But there was no turning back on penalties.

And Argentina missed with a second goal by Guido Rodríguez two minutes from time.
