The result of FANTASTIC Portugal’s World Cup match!
Portugal advanced to the World Cup with a 3-1 victory over Turkey,
whose attacker Burak Yilmaz
missed a penalty five minutes from time that would have tied the game in their playoff semi-final.
Portugal dominated the game from the start,
going 2-0 up in the first half when Otavio scored one goal and set up another for Diogo Jota in front of a sold-out Dragao Stadium in Porto.
However, Fernando Santos’ side was beaten by a Yilmaz goal in the 65th minute,
which had Portuguese fans on the edge of their seats as Turkey threatened.
After defender Jose Fonte fouled Enes Unal inside the area in the 85th minute, Yilmaz was awarded a penalty,
which he fired high over the bar after it hit the woodwork.
With a counter-attack goal in injury time,
Portugal substitute Matheus Nunes relieved the burden on the hosts.
They will host North Macedonia on Tuesday after missing out on automatic qualification in November.
