With a historic Enner Valencia, Ecuador ties with the Netherlands and approaches the Round of 16
The captain of the Ecuadorian team equaled a mark that only three other players in history had.
A combative Ecuador , commanded by the historic Enner Valencia , drew 1-1 with the Netherlands on the second day of the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup .
The duel was even from the beginning, from the first minutes and you could tell that the offensive teams had come out on the field and that they were taking risks.
But the European side went very quickly to the front thanks to a powerful shot from PSV Eindhoven’s man, Cody Gakpo . Five minutes were enough for the Netherlands to go to the front.
But Ecuador immediately advanced lines and overwhelmed the rival goal until minute 4 of the second half, when Enner Valencia tied the game.
The former player of Pachuca and Tigres in Liga MX equaled the record for most goals in consecutive games in World Cup history. The last six goals for Ecuador in World Cups are from Valencia.
And although the South American team finished better and over the opposite goal, the winning goal did not come, what did appear was an injury for Enner Valencia .
The Tricolor striker couldn’t finish the match and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. Although both teams now have four points, they are approaching the Round of 16 by leading Group A. Senegal has 3 points and Qatar, the host, is eliminated.
