Bruno Guimaraes’ last-gasp header for Newcastle!!

In dramatic circumstances at St James’ Park, Bruno Guimaraes’ last-gasp header earned a 2-1 win for Newcastle over Leicester,

all but securing the Magpies’ Premier League survival.

Guimaraes had cancelled out Ademola Lookman’s opener in the first half when he bundled home a corner,

and the Brazilian then scored the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time when he headed home replacement Joe Willock’s deflected cross,

sparking wild celebrations inside the stadium.

The late goal was a harsh blow to the Foxes,

who had fielded a heavily-rotated side following their Europa Conference League

exploits on Thursday and appeared to be more likely to score in the second half,

but it was a momentous moment for the hosts.

Newcastle, who were already 10 points clear of the relegation zone before kick-off, increased their lead to 12 points thanks to Guimaraes’ header, while Burnley drew 1-1 with West Ham in the other Premier League match on Sunday.

Although they are not mathematically secure yet,

Eddie Howe and his team can look forward to another season of top-flight football and potentially a brighter future thanks to the two-goal heroics of their £40 million January purchase from Lyon.

It didn’t take until the final ten minutes of the game for any team to have a chance. Burn was found in acres of space at the back post by Matt Targett’s corner,

but he misjudged his attempted header.

Newcastle climbed up to 14th place on 37 points, 12 points ahead of Burnley in 18th, and three points ahead of Leicester in ninth.
