Benzema’s two penalty misses, Real Madrid still awake!!
Benzema! ‘s two penalty misses on Wednesday,
Real Madrid moved one step closer to the LaLiga title with a 3-1 win at Osasuna.
After a slow start on Sunday, Madrid needed a stunning comeback to beat Sevilla 3-2,
but they were quick out of the blocks at El Sadar,
with David Alaba scoring after 12 minutes and Ante Budimir equalising soon after.
After Benzema saw two penalties saved by Sergio Herrera, Marco Asensio restored Madrid’s lead in the 45th minute.
Madrid moved 17 points clear of Atletico Madrid, with Sevilla and Barcelona also in action on Thursday,
against Levante and Real Sociedad, respectively.
In the opening exchanges, Rodrygo forced a fine Herrera save with a long-range effort, but Madrid were quickly ahead.
Asensio and Dani Ceballos combined for a quick free-kick that found space for Benzema, who squared for Alaba,
who fortuitously bundled home on the rebound of a Herrera reflex save.
Chimy Avila zipped over from the right for Budimir to tap-in a minute later for Osasuna.
On the stroke of halftime,
Asensio pounced on Ceballos’ saved close-range effort to put Madrid back in front,
before Thibaut Courtois stopped a flying Budimir header after the break.
