Clermont, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Clermont
On August 6, Clermont, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Clermont Foot 5-0 at the Stade Gabriel Montpied.
The visitors got on the board first thanks to Neymar Jr.,
who beat Mory Diaw with a low drive. Lionel Messi’s exquisite touch diverted Pablo Sarabia’s cross,
allowing the Brazilian to advance. Nearly 30 minutes into the game,
Achraf Hakimi extended PSG‘s lead by smashing a shot into the roof of the net after Neymar passed the ball to him. Near the halfway point of the game,
Marquinhos headed one past Diaw from a Neymar free-kick to give PSG a 3-0 lead.
After the restart, the Parisians also carried on their assault. After some selfless work from Neymar, Lionel Messi scored from close range.
Warren Zare-Emery made his debut for the club at the age of 16 years,
4 months, and 29 days,
making him the youngest player to play for PSG. In the 82nd minute of the game,
Marco Verratti was replaced by Zare-Emery.
The midfielder’s superb performances in the UEFA Youth League have piqued the interest of numerous clubs across the world.
He needs to live up to the expectations and develop into the player PSG wants to see.
PSG had a decent start to their Ligue 1 championship defence.
In their league opener, the Parisians gave Clermont no chance,
slamming five past them.
Finally, The match against Nantes last week in the French Super Cup saw them maintain their scorching form,
scoring four goals against their opponents.
Christophe Galtier,
who wants to be settled in as soon as possible, also benefits greatly from this. However, the Parisians will face tougher opposition when they play AS Monaco,
Montpellier, and Lille later this month.
In both of the games he has managed,
Christophe Galtier has used a three-man backline. Presnel Kimpembe,
Marquinhos,
and Sergio Ramos were the three defenders the 55-year-old started. As they stopped every Clermont advance,
the trio maintained their sturdy appearance throughout the entire game.
Ramos’ injury issues from the previous season prevented Mauricio Pochettino from enjoying this luxury,
as the Spaniard played in just 12 Ligue 1 games during his debut year at the Parc des Princes. Galtier will be hoping that the former Real Madrid
defender can avoid another injury and remain available for the duration of the season.
Against Clermont Foot, Neymar was unstoppable. Throughout the game,
the PSG forward scored one goal and assisted on three others.
His link-up play with Messi up front was entertaining to watch as the two teased Clermont Foot’s porous defence line.
Neymar
produced six chances, won six duels,
completed two dribbles,
recovered from five fouls, and won the most fouls (4).
So, The Brazilian entertained the guests with his showy feats and abilities. Even though he earned himself a hat-trick of assists, Neymar was incredibly selfless.
Lionel Messi had a memorable evening. Throughout the game,
the Argentinian international scored two goals and assisted in one more.
Messi defeated Clermont Foot by winning eight duels,
three recoveries, six completed dribbles, four chances created,
and one tackle. The second drink of the evening for the 35-year-old was worldly.
In the opening game of the new Ligue 1 season on Saturday,
