Barcelona kills Real Madrid’s dreams with a dramatic victory

Barcelona achieved a fatal victory at the expense of its arch-rivals Real Madrid, with a score (2-1), this evening, Sunday, at the “Spotify Camp Nou” stadium, in the 26th round of La Liga.

Real Madrid opened the score by mistake, with Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, in his own net in the 9th minute, while Sergi Roberto scored for Barcelona in the 45th minute, and Frank Casey (90 + 2).

With this victory, Barcelona raised its tally to 68 points at the top of the La Liga table, widening the gap with runner-up Real Madrid to 12 points, 12 rounds before the end of the competition.

The match started with pressure from the guests, and Karim Benzema shot a ball from the edge of the penalty area, which was blocked by Ter Stegen, Barca’s goalkeeper, in the first minute.

The response came after one minute from Barcelona, with a shot from Robert Lewandowski that was brilliantly saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid advanced with the first goal in the 9th minute, with a reverse goal accidentally scored by Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo in his own net, after Vinicius Jr. sent a cross, which hit the Uruguayan’s head and landed in Barca’s net.

Rafinha sent a cross into the penalty area towards his colleague Christensen, who headed a ball that passed by the left post in the 23rd minute.

The Catalan pressure continued, with a new cross from Frenkie de Jong to Christensen inside the area, but his header reached Courtois’ arms weakly in the 32nd minute.

Two minutes later, Courtois shone in blocking a powerful shot from outside the penalty area through Rafinha.

And Sergi Roberto managed to score the equalizer for Barcelona in the 45th minute, after Rafinha hit a ball that Courtois saved, to bounce back in front of Roberto, who shot into the royal net, to end the first half with a draw (1-1).

At the start of the second half, Vinicius Junior sent a cross into the penalty area, to Fede Valverde, who hit the left post in the 48th minute.

Robert Lewandowski hit a powerful ball from outside the penalty area, which passed by the left post of Courtois’ goal in the 59th minute.

In the 63rd minute, Rodrigo tried to shoot from the edge of the penalty area, but the ball passed by the left post.

Thibaut Courtois shone in blocking a shot from Rafinha on the edge of the penalty area, and turned it into a corner kick in the 74th minute.

Marco Asensio added Real Madrid’s second goal in the 81st minute, when he received a pass from Carvajal inside the penalty area, and shot with one touch into the net, but the referee canceled it for offside after returning to video technology.

Substitute Frank Casey killed Real Madrid’s dreams with a goal in the minute (90 + 2), as he received a cross from his colleague Alejandro Balde inside the penalty area and easily shot into the net.
