We review the most relevant aspects of a group with many open fronts2 1

The World Cup is just around the corner and it is time to analyze what options each team has to advance to the round of 16. England starts as favorites in a group B in which also Iran, the United States and Wales . And more so when in the last World Cup Gareth Southgate’s team reached the semifinals, despite the more placid path during said tournament. A Southgate that is still highly discussed in the country because many think that the English team could play better, and that on the other hand faces the enormous disappointments it has suffered in the European Championships prior to World Cups.

Selections and favorites

England and the United States: fight for the lead

The English team has a team that combines stars of the highest level (Sterling, Harry Kane, Walker…) along with youngsters of the category of Marcus Rashford or Alexander-Arnold , making it the main candidate to lead the group. It is a team that will have to be taken into account, but the United States could dispute the first place in the group : this team in which Pulisic shines is very young, so it is the first big event of this caliber for a good part of the team .

Current champions of the Concacaf Nations League and the Concacaf Gold Cup, the North American team is “almost at the level of Mexico” in the region, which is a good leap in quality. The match between England and the USA will be on the second day, so first place will be played there.

Iran and Wales seek their place in the World Cup

Wales always perform at a good level in these competitions. They have Gareth Bale as a reference, but he is not alone . A curious fact is that Wales has not played a World Cup final phase since 1958, the only time they reached a World Cup and were eliminated by Brazil.

Finally, there is the Iran team, a rough team, defensively very strong and very hard to win . They will be led by Carlos Queiroz and will surely be in contention for a ticket to the next round. Iran will give war. The favorites would have to be England and the USA , but it’s one of those groups where you can’t rule anyone out .
