German Bayer Leverkusen joined the qualifiers for the round of 16 as well, after winning (5-3) on penalties over its French host, Monaco.
And the original time ended with Leverkusen (3-2) ahead of Monaco, which is the same result that the French team won in the first leg, which took place in Germany.
The two teams resorted to playing an extra time of half an hour, divided equally into two halves, but the result remained the same, to finally decide the penalty shootout, which eventually smiled at Leverkusen.
The match was characterized by excitement from the first minutes, as Leverkusen advanced through Florian Vertz in the 13th minute, but Wissam Ben Yedder equalized for Monaco in the 19th minute from a penalty kick.
Leverkusen returned to the lead again, after Ezequiel Palacios and Amin Adly scored the second and third goals in the 21st and 58th minutes, respectively, while Brill Embolo scored the second goal for Monaco in the 84th minute.
