Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Edin Dzeko, and Romelu Lukaku all scored for Inter as they defeated

Viktoria Plzen 4-0 to advance to the Round of 16 of the Champions League and drop

Barcelona to the Europa League.


As Lukaku was sitting on the bench for the first time since suffering a significant thigh strain

two months ago, Marcelo Brozovic was the lone holdover. Jan Sykora, Jan Kliment, and Jan

Kopic were all missed by Viktoria Plzen, who had zero points.


Simone Inzaghi, the coach, was sent off against Barcelona and forced to watch from the

stands.
The goalkeeper made a frantic double save at the near post on Federico Dimarco and then

Henrikh Mkhitaryan after Francesco Acerbi shot over from a distance.

After Alessandro Bastoni and Dimarco exchanged passes down the left side, the latter

floated in a cross. Dzeko received the signal from Mkhitaryan behind him and dove out of

the way, allowing the free header at the back post.


After a beautiful move in which Dimarco controlled a brilliant cross-field ball from Nicola

Barella and crossed with his second touch for the goal, Dzeko did score shortly after, poised

to tap in from four yards out.


Following the break, Mkhitaryan nearly scored again with a fierce long-range shot that

struck the upright. Dimarco came close to adding another assist with a beautiful cushioned

volley pass for Lautaro Martinez, but the striker was stopped in his tracks by a save.

Alessandro Bastoni finished a pass-and-go with Dimarco down the left side and floated in a

cross. Dzeko received the signal from Mkhitaryan behind him and dove out of the way, allowing the free header at the back post.
Dzeko did score shortly after, poised to tap in from four yards after a beautiful move that saw Dimarco control an audacious cross-field pass from Nicola Barella and cross with his second touch for the goal.
After the break, Mkhitaryan came dangerously close to scoring twice with a fierce long-range shot that struck the post. With a beautiful cushioned volley pass for Lautaro Martinez, Dimarco also came close to adding another assist, but he was stopped by a save.

After missing two months due to a thigh injury, Lukaku made his first appearance. Lukaku needed only four minutes to score. Tucu Correa and I executed a quick one-two in order to evade defenders and score from close range. He waved to the crowd and congratulated himself by kissing the Inter shirt tag.
