Manchester United confirmed its qualification for the final match of the English League Cup, by defeating its guest Nottingham Forest (2-0) on Wednesday evening, in the second leg of the semi-final.
Anthony Martial scored the first goal for Manchester United in the 73rd minute, and Fred (76).
The result of the first-leg match ended with Manchester United winning 3-0, to set the Devils on a date with Newcastle United in the upcoming final at Wembley Stadium.
Quiet start
The first 10 minutes of the match passed quietly, without a step on the goal of the two teams, then Manchester United broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, through a cross from Shaw, the defense pushed it away, and the ball reached him again, and he fired it over the goal.
Minutes passed without witnessing real chances for the two goals, until the 29th minute, when Shaw sent a cross from the left, and it reached Casemiro, whose header was blocked by goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy.
And Manchester United continued to improve, when Garnacho advanced the ball, before sending a creeping cross, which Hennessey removed before it reached the museum’s Vighurst in the 33rd minute.
A minute later, Nottingham Forest responded through Johnson, who stormed into the penalty area and got rid of Martinez before shooting into the place where goalkeeper Tom Heaton was standing.
United opportunities
Anthony almost gave Manchester United the lead in the 38th minute, when he fired a half-volley shot, slightly over Nottingham’s goal.
Johnson passed his marker Casemiro, before his ball bounced off the defense to reach Dennis, whose shot seemed to enter the net, had it not been for his colleague Surridge in the 43rd minute.
