Aston Villa – Manchester United – Played on 11/06/2022
Luke Shaw admitted that Manchester United were “sloppy” against Aston Villa and were fully deserving of the defeat on Sunday afternoon.
United came into the match unbeaten in nine matches,
but put in a poor performance to be beaten 3-1 at Villa Park in Unai Emery’s first game as manager. Villa were 2-0 up after just 11 minutes,
with Leon Bailey finding the bottom corner before Lucas Digne curled a free-kick past David de Gea.
Watch the winning three goals of United now!
Alejandro Garnacho and Cristiano Ronaldo saw shots saved by Emi Martinez
before Shaw halved the deficit with a fortuitous deflection off Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey. United could not build on the goal however and Ramsey
picked out the top corner just after the break to put Villa two goals ahead once again.
Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery admitted that he was a “privileged man” after beating Manchester United 3-1
his first game in charge at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
Villa, who took four points off United last season,
raced into a two-goal lead with just 11 minutes on the clock. Following Leon Bailey’s smart opener,
the home side doubled their advantage through an excellent free-kick from Lucas Digne four minutes later.
United, who were evidently stunned by Villa’s rapid start,
did pull a goal back shortly before half-time,
offering them hope of a comeback. Luke Shaw’s speculative effort from distance took a wicked deflection off Jacob Ramsey,
leaving goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez with no chance of keeping his clean sheet intact.
The victory ended United’s run of five games unbeaten in the Premier League. Emery could not have asked for a better start to his reign at B6, with Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey guiding the side to the three points.
Erik ten Hag’s men struggled to respond and ultimately, only Ramsey’s own goal gave the visitors a glimmer of hope, which was quickly snuffed out.
