Real Madrid 1-1 Osasuna: LaLiga champions drop their first points of the campaign as the visitors hold on to Kike Garcia’s second-half equaliser late on with 10 men

Karim Benzema could have won it for Madrid from the penalty spot after David Garcia pushed him in the back inside the area but the Frenchman’s

Sergio Herrera curse struck again.

The Osasuna keeper saved two Benzema spot-kicks last season and this time he watched as he penalty crashed off the crossbar.

Real Madrid’s perfect start to the LaLiga

Los Blancos entered the match a perfect seven for seven so far in league play,

and with Karim Benzema back in the fold after an injury layoff,

all signs pointed to another three points at home.

However,

the Frenchman’s return was ruined by a late penalty

miss after Vinicius and Kike Garcia got their names on the scoresheet.

The first real chance fell to Benzema after 38 minutes. Vinicius found the French striker after a great run,

but he sent his volley inches wide of the mark.

Minutes later Real Madrid took the lead in fortuitous fashion.

Vinicius fired a rather tame cross in from the left that seemed to catch Sergio Herrera off guard.

By the time the Osasuna goalkeeper could react it was too late,

and the ball found its way into the far bottom corner.

Osasuna didn’t let the setback ruin their afternoon and found an equalizer just six minutes after the restart.

Kike got his head onto Unai Garcia’s fantastic cross,

with the ball looping over Andriy Lunin and into the back of the net.

It was very nearly 2-1 for the away side minutes later when Moi Gomez made his way down the right.

His cut back pass found Kike again,

but his first-time strike whistled just wide of the far post.

Benzema penalty

Osasuna’s hopes of leaving the Bernabeu

were dealt a serious blow in the 75th minute when David Garcia took down Benzema in the penalty area.

Karim Benzema missed a penalty as Real Madrid were frustrated by a ten man Osasuna at Santiago Bernabeu.

The visitors took a shock lead in the first half before Vinicius Junior hit back for Real Madrid.

but hammered the ball off the crossbar – missing his third consecutive penalty kick against Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Real Madrid dominated possession early in the game,

with Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy’s overlapping runs causing problems for the Osasuna backline,

but it was actually the visitors who’d create the first real chance of the game. That chance would fall to Nacho Vidal who,

finding himself completely unmarked

and in acres of space on the right of the penalty area, was unable to direct a subsequent volleyed effort anywhere near the goal.

It was a much,

much better chance than his shot made it look.

Los Blancos pushed forward thereafter,

getting the ball to Vinicius Junior with ever-increasing frequency.

And the Brazilian would win a free-kick

on the left flank which very nearly turned into a goal on the half hour mark.
