Goals:Sevilla – Fenerbahce – Played on 03/09/ 2023
Seville coach, Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance after its 2-0 victory over Turkish Fenerbahce, in the first leg of the round of 16 in the European League, but warned that the return match in Istanbul “will be very difficult.”
Sampaoli said after the match, which was held on Thursday, “We have to realize that the result has not been decided yet .. They are an organized team,” noting that the two halves of the first leg were completely different.
And he highlighted that Seville suffered in the first half, but in the second he made some adjustments, especially in the middle of the field, and deserved the victory.
Sampaoli referred to the role of the Serbian goalkeeper, Marco Dimitrov, who replaced Moroccan Yassin Bono, stressing that this match was “an opportunity for him and that it is good for the team to have two goalkeepers at this level.”
Regarding the Almeria match scheduled for next Sunday, in direct competition to stay in the Spanish First Division, Sampaoli said that the victory over Fenerbahce makes the team look in a “different way” to meet Almeria.
At the same time, he stressed the need to “play the meeting intelligently after the physical exhaustion” that the team was subjected to in front of Fenerbahce.
