Reuters, MONTEVIDEO, March 24 – After his team was denied a late equaliser against Uruguay in a critical World Cup qualifier on Thursday,

Peru striker Paolo Guerrero slammed the South American football authorities.

In injury time, Uruguayan goalkeeper Sergio Rochet saved Miguel Trauco’s looping shot on the line,

then took a step backwards into his goal while holding the ball at arm’s length.

The Brazilian referee judged that the entire ball

had not crossed the line and did not consult the Video Assistant Referee about the event (VAR).

Guerrero posted on Instagram,

“With all due respect to CONMEBOL (the South American Football Confederation), the referees, and everyone associated with the VAR, this is not fair.”

“It’s inexcusable; I hope they take action since (we) performed admirably and everyone knows it.” I’m hoping the person responsible shows up since they’ll be robbing us of our World Cup qualification.”

They had been “robbed,” according to defender Alexander Callens

“I told (the referee) to double-check, and he stated he had done so.” However, everyone has stated that it is a goal, and I have seen the photographs. He went on to say, “It’s entirely a goal.”

“Go check out the VAR.” You should have a peek at it. This is a game of epic proportions.”

Despite the loss, Peru remains in contention for a berth in Qatar.
