Germany had a deja vu and was on the verge of elimination from the Qatar 2022 World Cup , but came from behind and in the last minutes drew Spain 1-1 in a great match at the Al Bayt Stadium .

Luis Enrique ‘s La Roja managed possession of the ball, but Hansi Flick ‘s Mannschaft did not give up and a powerful forehand from Niclas Füllkrug at minute 83 saved them from being eliminated for the second consecutive time in a World Cup, after the failure in Russia 2018 .

The Spanish team once again showed a great collective game as they did against Costa Rica, whom they thrashed 7-0 in their debut in Qatar 2022 , and in the first minutes of the game they were very close to beating Manuel Neuer ‘s net .

Dani Olmo fired a shot that the Bayern Munich goalkeeper managed to deflect and the ball hit the crossbar, and later Jordi Alba tried long distance with the ball hitting outside the net.

For Germany to generate danger, an error had to appear at the start of Spain for Serge Gnabry to take a shot that went through the side of Neuer’s frame.

Ferran Torres missed the clearest of the match by connecting a moving penalty at Olmo’s service that he sent over Neuer’s goal when he had finished off without any mark.

Antonio Rüdiger had broken the zero at minute 39 with a header from a free kick taken by Joshua Kimmich, but the action was reviewed by VAR and his goal was ruled out for offside.

Unai Simón gave the Germans the ball and Kimmich almost vaccinated him, but the goalkeeper redeemed himself with a good save and then came La Roja’s goal at 62′.

Dani Olmo opened the pitch towards Alba who looked up to hit a low cross at the near post where Álvaro Morata appeared after a great movement to get unmarked and finish off with freedom to break Neuer’s net.

The agony was present in the Al Bayt Stadium with ghosts from the previous World Cup for the Germans, but true to their mentality they did not give up and at 83′ Leroy Sané served Jamal Musiala who pulled the ball into the area to serve without wanting to to Füllkrug who fired a shot at an angle that was impossible for Simón to stop.

With this draw and Costa Rica’s victory against Japan (1-0) , Group E is closed with one day left to finish the Group Phase, since the four teams can qualify for the Round of 16 .

Spain leads the group with four points, followed by Japan and Costa Rica with three, in the background is Germany with one point that will have to beat the Ticos and wait for the Spanish to defeat the Japanese to advance.
