Today, Sunday, the Italian national team returned to the path of victory, with an easy victory over its Maltese host (2-0), in the second round of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Matteo Retigi “15” and Matteo Pesina “27” scored the two goals for the Azzurri.

With this victory, the Italian national team is equal with North Macedonia in second place in Group C with 3 points, after it was defeated at home by England (2-1) in the first round, while the Malta national team remained at the bottom of the standings without a score.

Italy entered the atmosphere of today’s match when Alessio Romagnoli fired a missile from a distance, which the goalkeeper touched with his fingertips to turn into a corner.

And the corner was taken in the 15th minute, with a cross from Sandro Tonali, and the brilliant Matteo Rettigi rose to it alone, from within the six-yard area, to put it with an elaborate header into the net.

And in the 27th minute, the Azzurri doubled the score with a second goal through Matteo Pesina, who took advantage of a cross ball passed by Emerson Palmieri, who he met with one touch in the Malta goal.

Substitute Grifo almost added a third goal for Italy seconds after his participation, following a cross from the right, to direct a direct shot that was caught by the goalkeeper.

Malta had a dangerous opportunity in the 57th minute to reduce the score, after a corner was taken by Kane Attard in the far corner, and Mathieu Guimer revived it, who fired a ground shot that collided with the defense.

The performance of the Italian national team declined in the second half, while Malta tried to pose a threat timidly, so the match ended with the victory of the Azzurri (2-0).
