PSG had to dig and win against Marseille!

Neymar subject of horror tackle sparking 13-man brawl after PSG goal against Marseille

Thirteen players came together inside the Marseille half,

Paris Saint Germain – Olympique Marseille Played on 10/16, 2022

with Neymar remaining on the floor clutching his leg following the challenge. The ferocious tackle came out of no where on the forward and he will feel fortunate

that his foot was not planted upon impact or else he could have suffered a serious injury.

Brazilian teammate Marquinhos was at the heart of the scuffles,

certainly fearful that his friend could have been injured by the challenge and consequently been ruled out of the Qatar World Cup on the horizon. Neymar received treatment after the foul and was able to continue.

The former Barcelona star did not appear to be feeling the consequences of Gigot’s moment of madness,

though he was replaced in the 88th minute by Carlos Soler,

with PSG boss Christophe Galtier opting to solidify his midfield ahead of a nervy final few minutes.

PSG had to dig in to secure all three points,

with Marseille impressing with their tough performance.

Former Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi stood out in the centre of the park for the away side,

with the France international doing well to consistently close down Les Parisiens midfielders and preventing them from feeding the ball into their world class strike force.

PSG remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 as Neymar netted the winner as the French champions beat Marseille in Le Classique.

The Brazilian scored in first half stoppage time with his ninth Ligue 1 goal

of the season and it was enough to see off PSG’s rivals and keep the Parisians on top of the table.

In a fiery second half Marseille’s Samuel Gigot was sent off following a dangerous tackle

on Neymar,

which saw the defender receive a straight red card.

Mbappe has been at the centre of attention in France this week after reports

emerged that the forward wants to leave PSG

in the January transfer window despite penning a bumper new deal with the club over the summer. The former Monaco

star feels that his club have not kept their word on ‘promises’

made during contract negotiations and thus feels that he should be granted a move away,

with Real Madrid and several Premier League clubs thought to be interested.

There has been suggestions that Mbappe asked to leave as early

as weeks after signing his new deal in Paris after it became clear that the club would not land several of their top targets. Others have speculated that his relationship with Neymar is on the rocks and causing a stir,

though the pair certainly looked on the same wavelength against Marseille on Sunday night.

They wasted no time in peppering the visitors’ goal from the first whistle

Both sides had chances to take the lead,

but it was Neymar who made his effort count on the cusp of the half-time whistle for 1-0.

Marseille recovered well after the break,

but couldn’t find a way through PSG’s disciplined defence and lost any attacking thrust they had left when forced to play the remaining 20 minutes

with 10 men. Christophe Galtier’s side coped well in a rare,

enforced switch to a back four to secure all three points.

Lionel Messi wasted no time in getting down to business on his return,

forcing Pau Lopez into two low saves inside the opening five minutes,

before Achraf Hakimi’s effort brought a third out of the stopper shortly after.

After a shaky start, Marseille recovered well and began to carve out chances of their own,

but again it was PSG who nearly drew ahead,

Neymar driving them forward on the counter attack and slipping through Kylian Mbappe,

who forced a fourth save out of Lopez.

So Suddenly, the first half was becoming a personal highlight reel for the Marseille stopper,

a deflected effort to keep out the hosts.

And if it wasn’t Lopez,

it was the crossbar to deny PSG. Messi fired an almost perfect free-kick towards goal

after 35 minutes, but the ball rattled the underside of the crossbar and bounced away from the net.

Just as Marseille edged towards the break thinking they’d held the hosts,

Mbappe slotted through Neymar who made it 1-0 to close out an end-to-end first half.

Shooting themselves in the foot certainly didn’t deter Marseille,

who put the hosts under mounds of pressure in the early stages of the second half. Chancel Mbemba bombed forward time after time but just couldn’t get a clear sight at goal,

despite Marseille’s efforts to keep PSG pinned into their own half.

Finally Their bright spell faded, though,

as Marseille looked toothless while on top,

allowing PSG to sit in tight and slowly stamp their authority back on the game. And when early substitute Samuel Gigot needlessly hacked Neymar and received a straight red card in the 72nd minute,

hopes of a comeback dwindled further.
