Manchester City swept Chelsea, 4-0, on Sunday evening, to qualify for the fourth round of the FA Cup.

City’s goals were scored by Riyad Mahrez (23, 85 from a penalty kick), Julian Alvarez (30 from a penalty kick), and Phil Foden (38).

In the fourth round, Manchester City will play the winner from Monday evening’s match, between Arsenal and Oxford.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola rested a group of key players, led by Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and goalkeeper Ederson.

As for Chelsea coach Graham Potter, he included the young Bashir Humphreys as a right-back, in exchange for the presence of the other young man, Louis Hull, on the left side.

Manchester City dominated the course of the match from its inception but did not actually threaten Chelsea’s goal until the 12th minute, through a back game from Phil Foden through which the ball passed by the goal, but the English international committed a violation before the shot.

And Bernardo Silva’s player passed a falling ball over the defenders, which reached the young City player Cole Palmer, who chose to shoot at the goal instead of passing to Alvarez, to shake the side net from the outside.

The referee awarded a free kick to Manchester City after a violation committed by Hull against the Algerian international Mahrez, who rushed to execute the kick, to put the ball over the wall and into the net in the 23rd minute.

After using video technology, the referee awarded a penalty kick in favor of City, after a handball on Chelsea striker Kai Havertz, and Argentine Alvarez executed the kick successfully in the 30th minute.

Jorginho, the Chelsea midfielder, lost the ball under pressure from Rodri and Foden, and the latter passed to Alvarez, who shot into the standing spot of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 35th minute.

Two minutes later, a curved shot came from the Chelsea goalkeeper, before Foden added the third goal in the 38th minute, when he met a typical cross pass from right-back Kyle Walker, with one touch into the net.

In the last minute of the first half, a collective game resulted in the ball reaching Palmer on the left side, so the young player sent a creeping ball along the goal, which Alvarez failed to reach.

Chelsea made a double substitution between halftime, after which Denis Zakaria and Datro Fofana entered Kovacic and Havertz, and goalkeeper Ortega Moreno saved City from Mason Mount’s shot in the 55th minute.

Chelsea tried to improve his performance by introducing Cesar Azpilicueta and young Amari Hutchinson in place of Jorginho and Ziyech, but the method of passing the ball seemed slow, preventing him from launching serious attacks.

Bernardo Silva passed the ball to Mahrez, who made his way from the right, before hitting a ball with his left that passed by the post in the 72nd minute.

Hutchinson got the ball from Azpilicueta and fired an ambitious left shot that did not go far from the goal in the 74th minute.

Hutchinson cooperated with the other substitute, Karni Chukwuemeka, and the latter passed to Zakaria, whose ball rebounded from the defense to pass over the goal in the 78th minute.

The referee awarded a second penalty kick to Manchester City after Foden was tripped by Coulibaly, and Mahrez succeeded in taking the kick, adding the fourth goal in the 85th minute, and the rest of the minutes passed without anything new.
