France ended Morocco’s adventure in the World Cup semi-finals, by defeating it with two unanswered goals, this evening, Wednesday, at Al-Bayt Stadium.
The goals of the match were scored by Theo Hernandez and Kolo Mwani in the 5th and 79th minutes.
The French national team continued its title defense campaign, to qualify for the final match for the second time in a row, and it will face Argentina in the final match next Sunday at Lusail Stadium.
As for the Moroccan team, it will play against Croatia for the bronze medal, in a repeat of the two teams’ confrontation in the first round of the current version, which ended in a goalless draw in Group Six.
The match started at a fast pace, and before the Moroccan national team caught its breath, the world champions surprised them with an early goal scored by Theo Hernandez after an attack initiated by Griezmann, in which Mbappe participated.
The Atlas Lions tried to remedy this shock and advanced to threaten the roosters with a shot by Ezzedine Onahi, which Hugo Lloris pushed away, and another attempt by Hakim Ziyech.
Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, was forced to replace captain Romain Sayes due to his injury, to replace Salim Amlah in the 21st minute.
The French response was strong and dangerous, as Giroud’s shot was blocked by the right post, and Mbappe missed an outright one.
In the last minutes of the first half, Griezmann played a corner kick, which Raphael Varane met with his foot next to the post.
Jawad Yamik almost equalized with a wonderful scissor, which Loris pushed away with difficulty, with the help of the post, to bounce back to Sofiane Boufal, who shot outside the goal.
At the start of the second half, Yahya Atiyatallah participated in the place of Nassir Mazraoui, to activate the two fronts of the Moroccan national team with mutual movements by Boufal with Hakimi on the right, and Atiyatallah on the left, to help the spearhead Youssef Al-Nusairi.
The Moroccans pressed hard to equalise, but the French defense was solid and alert, as Varane and Ibrahima Konate removed more than one cross.
And Didier Deschamps, the coach of the roosters, moved to revitalize the ranks after 65 minutes had passed, as Marcus Thuram replaced Giroud.
Kylian Mbappe moved to the center of the spearhead, hoping to take advantage of his speed in the counterattacks deep in the Moroccan defense.
Al-Rakraki responded with two substitutions at once, as he fielded Abd Al-Razzaq Hamdallah and Zakaria Abu Khalil, in the place of Al-Nusairi and Boufal, then Abd Al-Samad Al-Zalzouli, in the place of Salim Amlah.
On the other hand, Kolo Mwani participated in the place of Osman Dembele, and the substitute presented the reward to his coach after he came down by scoring the second goal after following up on Mbappe’s shot that hit Zalzuli.
The Moroccan national team did not despair but rather tried to score an honorary goal, as Onahi and Hamdallah missed two chances, and what he wanted did not materialize, amid the tears and crying of his fans who left the home stadium, saddened by the loss of a historic qualification.
