Manchester United survived early exclusion from the FA Cup, after turning the tables on its guest West Ham United, with a fatal victory (3-1), Wednesday, in the fifth round of the championship.
The London team advanced with a goal through Saeed Bin Rahma (54 s), but Nayef Akrad scored an own goal for United (77 s), before Alejandro Garnacho and Farid added two goals in the 90th and 95th minutes.
The first serious chance came from Figurst, who slid to the ground to meet a cross near the Hammer’s goal but headed the ball wide.
West Ham almost surprised its host with a goal in the middle of the first half, after a silk pass sent by Benrahma towards Antonio, who kicked the ball towards the penalty area before hitting De Gea’s body, to save the latter from a goal.
From a corner kick, Sochik met a cross with a header, which passed next to the right post of the Red Devils’ goal.. so the guests’ attempts to hit the Spanish goalkeeper’s goal continued with a long-range shot by Paqueta, but the ball settled easily in De Gea’s hands.
Anthony tried to respond to the home side with a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area, but it missed the goal. De Gea stopped again in front of a ground shot fired by Ben Rahma from t he heart of the penalty area after the ball was on its way toward Antonio, who was free of control.
De Gea committed a mistake that almost cost his team a goal after he passed the ball to one of the guest players, it turn into a counterattack that Antonio finished with a ground shot, which settled in the arms of the United goalkeeper, so that the next minutes passed without anything new, and the first half ended in a goalless draw.
The first minutes of the second half witnessed a surprise goal for the guests from a missile shot by Ben Rahma, to which De Gea was unable to respond.
Manchester United intensified their attacks in the following minutes, hoping to equalize the score, which he had already realized from Casemiro’s header, but video technology proved the Brazilian player’s offside, and the referee canceled the goal.
However, Moroccan defender Nayef Akrad dealt a blow to his team after he accidentally turned a cross with a header into the Hammer’s net, giving United the chance to equalize.
And in the manner of Ben Rahma, Garnacho managed to stun the Hammers with a fatal goal in the last moments of regular time with a wonderful shot at the far corner, to ignite the stands of the Theater of Dreams.
Rashford almost added the third goal before the end of the counted time instead of lost with a creeping ground shot, but the ball was once next to the post.
And Akrd committed a new mistake after Figurst pounced on him, forcing him to take out a ball by mistake, before it reached Farid, who met it with a direct touch into the net, scoring the third goal for the Red Devils.
