Erling Haaland struck two late goals as Norway stunned Brazil, winning 2-1 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in their history. Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland produced a sensational display, saving a first-half penalty from Bruno Guimaraes before Haaland struck twice in the last 11 minutes. Andreas Schjelderup broke free down the left after a slick seven-pass sequence and stood up the perfect cross for Haaland to smash a downward header past Alisson in the 79th minute. Haaland then added a superb second when his low drive from long range found the corner in the 90th minute to leave the five-time winners stunned. A late Neymar penalty in the tenth minute of stoppage time was nothing more than a consolation as Brazil made their earliest World Cup exit since 1990. Norway will now face England in the quarterfinals in Miami on July 11.
